What to expect at the assessment centre

As part of this event, you will complete the exercises listed below. The videos have some handy tips on how to ace your exercises from our amazing assessors, who are also experienced graduate recruiters! You will receive detailed and personalised written feedback from them after completing your assessment centre.

Interview

You will take part in a 1:1 interview, which will last 10 minutes. Review the job descriptions below to prepare for this exercise. This will give you an insight into the types of questions that an employer will ask. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions.

Presentation

You will present a 3-minute presentation to the assessor and a group of your peers. The topics will be provided to you at the start of the exercise, and you will be given time to prepare and deliver your presentation during the exercise time slot. The assessor will then ask you questions. Please ensure you are using a device where you can use PowerPoint (e.g. laptop or tablet)

All materials for your presentation exercise will be provided on the day. No pre-work is required for this exercise.

Group Exercise

The group exercise is a collaborative task where you will work together as a group on a time-sensitive task. You will be presented with a scenario that requires you to make decisions and contribute your suggestions as a group.

Venue: Holiday Inn Portsmouth

Venue address: Holiday Inn Portsmouth, Pembroke Road, Portsmouth, PO1 2TA

You will be taking part in a half-day assessment centre – a morning (AM) or afternoon (PM) session.

You must make your own way to the venue. Please check the map below to see the route from the university campus to the venue.

On arrival, report to the reception.

  • Check in via the iPads provided as you enter the building. You must attend the assessment centre you have been allocated.

  • Your schedule will be available after you have completed the check-in process.

  • Make your way to the Normandy Suite for the pre-event briefing.

 
 
 

You will receive your login details to access the event one week before your assessment centre.
