Assessment Centre Competencies
The competencies below are what you will be assessed against in your exercises. These reflect what real employers are using during the recruitment process for graduate roles.
Working together
The ability to share information and build supportive, trusting, and professional relationships with others.
Consider when you have worked effectively as a team during university projects, work experience or extra-curricular activities.
Commercial Awareness
An understanding of the business world and the factors that affect this.
Show that you have researched an organisation, and understand how current trends might present different challenges and opportunities in that industry.
Emotional intelligence
The ability to understand and manage your own and others’ emotions to communicate effectively, empathise with others and manage conflict.
Demonstrate that you can listen, compromise or adapt your approach to help others.
Motivation/ drive for results
The ability to push things forward to achieve higher results. A passion and enthusiasm to push through tasks in the face of difficulties.
Show enthusiasm in both what and how you contribute. Think about a particular problem that you overcame, such as a challenging deadline or constructive feedback.
Communication
The ability to clearly articulate thoughts and ideas and listen to the views of other people.
Identify a time when you have communicated effectively with others to achieve results. Make sure you encourage contributions from others.
