Graduate Recruitment Mock Assessment Simulation

Smart Resourcing Solutions carried out a mock assessment centre for Leeds Beckett University

Smart Resourcing Solutions delivered a Mock Assessment & Selection Workshop to 20 Retail & Leisure Management students at Leeds Metropolitan University.

The students attended a one hour workshop introducing them to the module and were given a deadline to complete an application form, online screening tests and prepare a presentation. One week later, the students attended an Assessment Centre to deliver their presentation, take part in a group exercise and interview.

The students are invited to attend a feedback meeting to discuss their performance and receive a written report. Their performance is measured against benchmarks used by an employer at each stage of the process. The outcome being that the student will understand how far along the process they would progress.

Graduate Recruitment Assessment Simulation

Smart Resourcing Solutions embeded employability into curriculum with an assessment centre simulation

Smart Resourcing Solutions has delivered an Assessment & Selection simulation for the Manchester Fashion Institute since 2014. The event host 850 students across a two day programme. Due to the size and complexity of the event, the Etihad Stadium is hired to provide the students with an excellent experience.

Students take part in three exercises and collect their feedback on the day. Results show that there has been an increase in students securing Industrial Placements and Internships as well as being competitive in the larger corporate graduate employers. There has been a noticeable shift in students securing placements with Marks & Spencer, Matalan, Primark, Boohoo, ASOS, John Lewis and House of Fraser compared with previous years where local SME’s were the destination for students.

All assessment materials and exercises were designed by Smart Resourcing Solutions. The University approved the nature of the exercises so they were relevant to the curriculum and in line with techniques used by employers of choice.

Smart Resourcing Solutions supplied over 40 assessors and each student met with a different assessor ensuring the feedback received proved credible and useful to develop their employability skills.

Students took part in three exercises and received their individual feedback report within ten days of attending the simulation. The objective is to encourage the marketing students from the University to apply and compete for industrial placement and summer internships.

Judith Baines, Head of Careers commented: "Smart Resourcing really understand students and recruiters and organised a comprehensive assessment centre simulation which was tailored to suit our budget, our students and the venue available to them.  Sophie and Simon were extremely professional, patient with any setbacks or delays that we presented them with and proved to be excellent trouble-shooters when dealing with issues beyond their control.  We were so pleased with the event and the feedback from the students and academics that we are now growing the event from around 380 students to over 1,000 this Autumn.   I would highly recommend working with the team and hope to do so again myself in the future."

Graduate Recruitment Assessment Design

Smart Resourcing Solutions designed Assessment centre materials for Boots

Smart Resourcing Solutions redesigned the assessment and selection process for Boots UK Graduate Finance Programme. The process started with establishing the current process and performance and holding various focus groups to understand the aspirational objectives for the programme. This resulted in the design of an accurate graduate profile. The desirable skills and attributes were highlighted and tested in the end to end process.

A revised application form and telephone interview script were written and used across all programmes followed by a bespoke Finance Programme Assessment Centre. Relationships with the Finance function were established and constant communication converted their ideas into measurable and effective exercises at the assessment centre.

The assessor pool was trained on the assessment techniques and the new materials. A mock assessment centre took place using existing graduates testing the materials before they were used in the live environment.

Smart Resourcing Solutions designed the assessment centre process for the HR team to recruit interns and ran a mock assessment centre.

Smart Resourcing Solutions has delivered a number of Assessment & Selection simulations for students participating in the ‘Lincoln Employability Award’ and the ‘Lincoln Hire Me Programme’. Students embark on a number of workshops prior to attending the simulation. They use the knowledge gained from the workshops to take part in three exercises. Once they have completed the simulation, they gain the accredited award.

Feedback reports are issued within days of attending and the information has been used to engage with the Careers & Enterprise Service to further develop their employability skills. The programme fully supports the Universities aim of encouraging students to engage with employers listed in ‘The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers’.

The projects has been received positively by the University and its students and there are plans to increase participation across schools in 2017.
